Are you walking with God?

It is a simple question, with a seismic consequence.  The above-mentioned question is direct and to the point!  It’s both thought-provoking and profound.  It calls for self-examination, as well as an earnest recognition of one’s accountability to God.

Are you walking with God?  Three examples depicting the idea of “walking with God” are found in the Old Testament writings of Scripture.  The first being the account of Enoch.  Gensis  5:22-24 (NIV) records, “After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”

Noah is also shown to have “walked with God.”  Genesis 6:9b (NIV) states, “Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God.”

Abraham is our final example in the Old Testament Scriptures.  Genesis reads, “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.  Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”  Abram fell facedown, and God said to him,  “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations”’ – Genesis 17:1-4 (NIV).

As we view these passages there is a clear commonality amongst these three men, they all put their faith in God.  In placing their faith in God each man received a righteous standing in Him therefore being privileged to walk with God!  We’re reminded that “it was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.”  For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.  And it is impossible to please God without faith.  Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him” – Hebrews 11:5-6 (NLT).

In putting our faith in God, we proclaim His sovereign authority and submit thereof to His will and not our own.  We transition from being His enemy and now enter into peace with Him.  “Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us” – Romans 5:1 (NIV).  Thus, we’re saved from His wrath as some experienced in the days of Noah and saved from the final full wrath to come upon all unbelievers.

Are you walking with God? If your answer is no or you’re not sure, ask Jesus to save you.  He declares, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life” – John 8:12 (NLT).
