The Pursuit of Peace
As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace”- (Luke 19:41-42a NIV).
Like then as He does now, Jesus looks upon the masses with deep sympathy desiring that they would turn to Him to fulfill the void within their heart and mind. The yearning for peace that is so elusive is often sought in drugs, alcohol, food, sexual relations, ambition, power trips of authority, money, and such like.
Yet, in all these things the inner peace that is truly pursued still evades the grasp of those who seek to lay hold of it. Some have even sought areas of meditation and religious activity to bring peace front and near, although it remains unattainable because absence of Jesus Christ being the source people will continue to be deceived, disappointed, and ultimately devoid.
So, as we celebrate this Easter holiday, let us celebrate the true reason for this season, the giver of life and peace, Jesus Christ. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” – (John14:27 NIV).
“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” – (Isaiah 9:6 NIV).
