God is Greater!

At some point everyone must come face to face with this reality, “I cannot serve God and ___________” (fill in the blank).  Whether it’s your patriotism, your pledge, your President, your party, your popularity, your possessions, your property, your position, your prosperity, or your pay; God will never accept being second place to any of it.

Some professed Christians have chosen country over Christ, candidate over Christ, concepts over Christ, Congress over Christ, courts over Christ, and even crocked cops over Christ.  All the while ignoring and rejecting the commandments of Christ.  Yes, we are to pray on behalf of all these areas.  Yet never should these concerns push God out of His preeminence.  “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.  Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!  No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved to money” – Matthew 6:21-24 (NLT).

Yes, we have all faulted and lost our way at times, many times.  However, God always chastise and corrects His children, and brings them back into the center of His will to carry out His work in accordance with His Word. Therefore, if what you are standing up for is not found in His Word, and confirmed by His Holy Spirit, then you have missed the mark again.  I implore you to examine the light within your eye and be not self-deceived.  Anyone who wants to be my follower must love me far more than he does his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, or sisters—yes, more than his own life—otherwise he cannot be my disciple.  And no one can be my disciple who does not carry his own cross and follow me” – Luke 14:26-27 (TLB).
