Raise your hand if you like to see things go to waste. How many of you really enjoy seeing fruit rotting on a tree or restaurants throwing tons of food away while people are starving all over the land? Consider this, many of us have seen people living recklessly. I would dare to say that you personally know someone who fits into the reckless category (i.e. without regard, respect, or care of the consequences).
Very few people are pleased when things are needlessly perishing. Yet, when it comes to being wasteful with the most priceless gift of all, there is much silence and many undisturbed days. Too much consumption of the pleasures of this world, along with a concentrated focus on me, myself, and I, leaves little room for compassion on others. What a contrast some Christians are to the Master who called us.
When he [JESUS] saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields” – Matthew 9:36-38 (NLT).
