As we are witnessing the emergence of commercial space travel by Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos, I can’t help but speculate on what’s coming, roundtrip travel from earth to space daily.  As I imagine what’s coming, I’m reminded of one critical component on NASA space crafts, the temperature shield. The temperature shield serves to protect the craft from extreme heat more than 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit upon re-entry into earth, while also protecting the craft from severe cold conditions in space such as -250 degrees Fahrenheit.  Some at NASA call the shield “the propitiation shield”.  Here the propitiation shield serves to protect between two extremely opposing temperatures.

Likewise, in the Bible the Propitiation shield serves to reconcile two opposing conditions, man’s unholiness and God’s holiness.  The propitiation shield is none other than Jesus Christ.  “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.  And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world” – 1 John 2:1-2 (NKJV).

Although you may think you can perform space travel without the protective temperature shielding, in doing so you will absolutely fail.  By the same token, if you fail to attach Jesus to your life, you will utterly perish. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” – John 3:16 (NKJV).
